Frequently Asked Questions

When should I water?

Ideally, a lawn needs one inch of water per week during the growing season. Be sure to give your lawn enough water to reach the roots of the grass plants. A light watering will be of little benefit. A good rule of thumb is to water for about one half-hour in each sprinkler location.

What is the best method for mowing?
Please don't torture your lawn by mowing it short. Do your lawn a favor and set your mower at the highest setting possible. If you are recycling your grass (which we recommend), we still recommend cutting at a 3 inch height. Cut it high and leave it lie. We recommend recycling.

What do you put on my lawn during lawn maintenance?
Your lawn will receive a balanced liquid lawn food, dandelion and broadleaf weed control and iron sulfur supplements.

How long does it take before weeds are under control after an application?
Visual activity on dandelions will take approximately 14 days or more. Total degeneration of the plant will take two to three weeds. Other lawn weeds will take various lengths of time for control, and we will only be able to control lawn weeds there at the time of application.

When should I water my lawn after you have treated it?
You should not water your lawn until the application is dry. It's a good idea to water your lawn the day after an application. This dissolves the fertilizer and makes it more readily available to the grass plants. The best time to water your is during the day. Watering at night can encourage turf grass diseases.

When can I mow my lawn after an application?
We recommend waiting 24-48 hours following an application to mow.

What is aeration?
Aeration is the naturally occurring process of air exchange between the soil and its surrounding atmosphere. Aeration is the process of mechanically removing small plugs of thatch and soil from the lawn to improve soil aeration. The aeration process is also commonly called core aeration in the lawn service industry and homeowners often refer to it as aeration.

What are the benefits of aeration?

  • Improved air exchange between the soil and atmosphere
  • Enhanced soil water uptake
  • Improved fertilizer uptake and use
  • Reduced water runoff and puddling
  • Improved turf grass rooting
  • Reduced soil compaction
  • Enhanced heat and drought stress tolerance
  • Improved resiliency and cushioning
  • Enhanced thatch breakdown

What do I do with the plugs on my lawn after aeration?
After aeration your lawn is dotted with small plugs. Within a week or two these plugs of thatch and soil will break apart and disappear into you lawn. Do not attempt to rake them up.

When is the best time to fertilize trees?
The best time to fertilize trees is late fall after the leaves have ceased to function, or in early spring before leaves have emerged.

What are the benefits of fertilizing trees?

  • Increased growth of young trees and shrubs
  • Increased winter hardiness and longevity
  • Improved color and density of canopy
  • Builds a hardier plant to resist and overcome disease and insects
  • Increases the livability of young plants less than ten years old
